Need a reminder why recycling rocks? Here's one -- energy savings.
Recycling recovers resources, like alumina in the case of aluminum, and saves energy by avoiding the mining, hauling, and refining of new resources. Check out these stats on recycling a simple aluminum can from the Aluminum Association.
• Tossing away an aluminum can wastes as much energy as pouring out half of that can’s volume of gasoline
• Recycling aluminum saves more than 90 percent of the energy that would be needed to create a comparable amount aluminum from virgin raw materials.
• The energy saved by recycling 100 percent of aluminum cans could power 4 million homes for a full year.
